 After an agitated night, punctuated by a strong rolling of the ship accompanied by the foghorn, the sun is peaking through the clouds, and the wind has started to calm down.

We are still sailing by the coast of Labrador.

A flock of petrels accompanied us, circling the waves, far from land.  

The first station, planned for the middle of the day, is cancelled:  the sea is still aggravated.

We spend the day on stand-by, recovering from last night’s events, under a low sky that doesn’t truly lift until late afternoon.

I forgot, a little word about the temperature under the protection of the wheelhouse from the wind coming from behind the wheelhouse: 7˚C, people working on the decks have begun to layer their clothing.

The Captain tells his daily message:

“Due to the bad weather we encountered, with winds up to 40 knots and waves reaching 3-4 meters, we have fallen behind our initial timing.  The planned mapping in the Saglek Margin will be reduced to one line: our direct route to the north, instead of three.  In the middle of mapping, we will conduct a nutrients station; the rosette’s first cast is set to occur in the night.

We will then continue on in the direction of Cumberland Sound, south of Baffin, to find the fishing boat “Nujialuk”, with which we will collaborate to test the new sonar onboard, the SX 90. The weather forecast is as follows: winds from West-North-West at 10 to 15 knots, with gusts up to 20 knots.”

Après une nuit agitée, ponctuée par un bon tangage agrémenté du son de la  corne de brume, le ciel est un peu dégagé, le vent a commencé à mollir. 

Une horde de fulmars nous accompagne, tournoyants  dans les vagues , loin des terres.

La 1ère station prévue en milieu de journée est annulée: la mer est encore agitée. 

 Nous passons la journée en stand-by, à récupérer du coup de tabac de  la veille, sous un ciel bas qui ne se lève véritablement qu'en fin d'après midi. J'oubliais, un petit mot de la température à l'abri du vent derrière la timonerie : 7°C, la veste de quart  devient à la mode sur les ponts à présent.

 Le commandant envoie son message journalier : 

 "Suite au mauvais temps rencontré, vents jusqu'à 40 noeuds et vagues de 3-4 mètres,  nous avons pris du retard sur le timing initial. Le mapping prévu dans le Saglek Margin sera réduit à un seul passage: notre route vers le nord, au lieu de 3. Au milieu du mapping, une station de nutriments, première mise à l'eau de la rosette  est prévue dans la nuit. Nous continuerons ensuite en direction de Cumberland Sound pour retrouver le bateau de pêche "Nujialuk" avec lequel nous collaborerons pour des tests sur un nouveau sonar .Les prévisions météo à venir sont : vent de Nord Ouest à Ouest de 10 à 15 noeuds, pouvant aller jusqu'à 20 noeuds."
